The long-awaited fifth show of the EMCA season featured two singer-songwriters—one a seasoned veteran, the other an emerging talent—both were captivating.
Opening the show, local favorite Cohen Sieg delivered songs of love, life, and determination. Nimbly switching between instruments, he electronically layered sounds to create rich instrumental textures that complemented his powerful, melodic voice. Sieg is undoubtedly an artist to watch in the coming years as he continues to make his mark on the music scene.

Dartmouth, NS, native Ian Sherwood is a prolific creator, known not only for his work as a solo musician but also as an actor and award-winning film score composer.
A gifted wordsmith, Sherwood charmed the audience with a seamless blend of storytelling and song. Riffing on themes of old relationships, lip balm, and angry beavers, he often had the crowd in stitches.
One of the most notable elements of Sherwood’s performance was his masterful use of looping. Elevating the technology into an art form, he created soaring vocal harmonies in Non Believer and intricately layered saxophone parts in Oh Mary Don’t You Weep.
Also memorable was Sherwood’s virtuosic whistling in Firefly—a skill he humorously attributed to the liberal application of Blistex.
With their innovative use of technology, both Sieg and Sherwood are redefining the singer-with-guitar format, much to the delight of their audiences.
EMCA's next concert is quickly approaching - country rising star Trevor Panczak brings his down home musical stylings to the Pinawa Communty Centre on Friday, March 21!
